About Eurocamping Vessem

A real family business with a rich history. Read all about the origins of the campground and all the owners.

The history

Welcome to Eurocamping Vessem B.V.! Our history begins with a special story. Back in 1951 Cor and Jo Omtzigt began their entrepreneurial journey at the Albert Cuyp market, where they sold butter, cheese and eggs until 1961. In 1961 they bought camping site De Zonnehoek in Vessem. They wanted to make a cozy place for travelers, so they changed the name to Eldorado, which means the same as paradise.

From the beginning, we wanted to grow. In 1969 we moved the entrance to the current location on Zwembadweg. By purchasing pieces of land from farmers and fellow villagers, and thanks to land consolidation, our campground grew to a whopping 42.6 acres of green space.

We are proud of our growth. In 1969, we built four outdoor pools (now three) and two shower buildings. We also introduced our first mobile homes. In 1974 we got our name, Eurocamping Vessem B.V. In 1975, John Driesen joined us as lifeguard and he and Corry, the daughter of Cor and Jo, fell in love. They married and in 1979 built their house on the campsite, a place that really felt like home. Between 1985 and 1990 they had four children, Pauline, Ralf, Jordy and Björn, who now help out at the campsite.

We invested heavily in facilities such as a new reception, playgrounds, a cozy canteen, a soccer field, miniature golf, tennis court, two new shower buildings and a fiber optic (WIFI) network. After the death of Cor and Jo Omtzigt, John and Corry took over, with help from her sister Thea, brother-in-law Hans and the third generation.

With the rise of glamping, we now offer safari tents, chalets and pitches with private sanitary facilities for guests seeking comfort and luxury. We have also created new comfort (plus) pitches to meet the needs of modern campers.

And now, as the youngest members of our family - the fourth generation - grow up, they are our test panel for the entertainment program and new playground equipment. Their happy faces inspire us to make the campground even more attractive for everyone. At Eurocamping Vessem B.V. it's not just about a campsite; it's our family story. For us, this is more than work; it is our home. We are a campsite for and by family. Dedication and cherishing special moments are our focus. Feel welcome at our family (camping).
